Experience: At least 4 years of continuous experience from the date the license was issued.
License category: For campers up to 3,500 kg gross weight, standard category B is sufficient. An International Driving Permit is not required in Georgia — national licenses in Latin or Cyrillic script are enough.
Georgia has a developed culture of "wild" camping: stopping by a river, near vineyards, or by a forest is allowed in most places for free. This is one of the main advantages of a camper tour in the country.
Equipped campsites with electrical hookup, showers, and dump stations are available near Tbilisi (Mtatsminda, Lisi Lake), in Batumi, near Gudauri, and in Sighnaghi. The cost for a night with hookup is typically 15–25 USD.
Prohibited: Overnight stays near protected natural sites without permission, blocking access to farmlands, and polluting water sources.

Kazbegi (Stepantsminda): Yes, the Georgian Military Highway is fully paved. Vans and small Semis will get there without problems. For large integrated motorhomes, the winding roads are narrow — caution is needed. The ascent to Gergeti Trinity Church itself is only by local 4x4.
Mestia (Svaneti): The road is paved, but the turns are very narrow. A small Van will make it. A camper longer than 6.5 m is not recommended. From Mestia towards Ushguli — only 4x4, campers are not allowed.
Tusheti (Omalo) and Goderdzi Pass: Absolutely prohibited for any campervan. Gravel, rocks, cliffs — this is territory for expedition 4x4 vehicles.
Most modern campers run on diesel — it's more economical and better suited for heavy motorhomes. Some vans are gasoline-powered. Always check the fuel type with the host upon pick-up.
Refuel only at branded gas stations: SOCAR, Wissol, Gulf, Rompetrol. They are located along all major highways every 30–60 km. Above Pasanauri (on the road to Kazbegi) and in Svaneti, stations are much fewer — fill up in advance.
No. According to Georgian law, an International Driving Permit (IDP) is not required if your national license is in Latin or Cyrillic script. A standard national category B license and your passport are completely sufficient — both for police checks and for activating insurance with the host.
If your license is in a script that does not use Latin or Cyrillic characters (e.g., Arabic, Chinese), we recommend getting a notarized translation or obtaining an IDP in advance.
